Duality Illuminated

An Installation done for Pride Toronto 2022, Consisting of Transparent Mylar paintings flanked by lighting projections.

Duality lives in all things; opposites bound together in a single space. This work seeks to evoke the push and pull of a dualistic identity. Large figures painted on opposing sides of a translucent surface and pushed into a state of constant flux under the everchanging light projected upon them. They each stand as a tapestry of identity. Figures reaching out toward each other, separated by the veil of the surface. Each side a mirrored image that intersects with the opposing side. They overlap, mix together and create a harmony of colour representative of shifting identity. The figures are soft and intimate, paired with delicate florals and framed by solid shapes of colour. They each ask for your time and contemplation. To slow down and consider our own identities and the growth and regrowth we embody within ourselves.
